At the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions held on July 18, 2025, and presided over by the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, key resolutions were made concerning the timelines for the 2025 admissions cycle.
One of the major outcomes of the meeting was the directive that all public universities must complete and submit their admission recommendations for first-choice candidates to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on or before Tuesday, 30th September 2025.
In contrast, private universities were given until Friday, 31st October 2025 to submit their lists, allowing sufficient time for other tertiary institutions to carry out their own admission processes.
The final deadlines for the 2025 admission exercise across all tiers of tertiary institutions are as follows:
– ✅ Public Universities – 31st October 2025
– ✅ Private Universities – 30th November 2025
– ✅ Other Tertiary Institutions (Polytechnics, Colleges of Education, etc.) – 31st December 2025
These timelines aim to promote a harmonized and predictable academic calendar across institutions and ensure a smooth admission process.
However, data from the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS)—the official platform for managing admissions—indicates that several institutions have yet to submit any admission recommendations, despite the clear directives and ample time provided.
Of particular concern is the failure of some public universities to meet the September deadline. The Policy Meeting had emphasized that even if institutions were not ready to resume academic activities, they were still expected to process and archive admissions in line with the approved schedule.
As such, the following institutions are urgently requested to commence their 2025 admissions without further delay:
– 📍 Northwest University, Kano, Kano State
– 📍 Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State
– 📍 Kano State University of Science and Technology, Wudil, Kano State
– 📍 Benue State University, Makurdi, Benue State
– 📍 Abdulkadir Kure University, Minna, Niger State
– 📍 Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna, Kaduna State
– 📍 Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo, Oyo State
– 📍 Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Funtua, Katsina State
JAMB has reiterated that failure to comply with these deadlines will result in unprocessed candidates being automatically reassigned to other available institutions for possible consideration.
