JAMB Announcement to Candidates on Change of Institution or Programme

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has received credible reports indicating that certain institutions are leveraging their internal portals to pressure or entice qualified candidates—especially those with high rankings on the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS)—to switch from their preferred programmes to less-subscribed alternatives.

This unethical tactic appears aimed at creating space for the institutions’ favored candidates to climb the admission rankings, thereby undermining the merit-based system designed to uphold fairness and transparency.

JAMB wishes to reiterate that all admission activities in Nigeria must be conducted strictly through CAPS. This centralized platform was established to ensure accountability, equity, and openness in the admission process. Any programme change or admission-related action executed outside of CAPS is considered unauthorized, unethical, and potentially harmful to the candidates involved.

Institutions engaging in such covert practices demonstrate a clear intent to manipulate the system and disadvantage unsuspecting candidates. The Board strongly condemns these actions and will not tolerate any attempt to compromise the integrity of the admission process.

Accordingly, candidates are advised to ignore any requests or prompts from institutional portals or unofficial sources urging them to alter their programme choices.

JAMB further cautions that any programme change later reflected on CAPS—if influenced by such external pressures—will be treated as a voluntary decision by the candidate. In such cases, the Board will not assume responsibility for any resulting consequences.

Preliminary findings have identified one university in the South-West and another in Abuja as being involved in these practices. JAMB has commenced appropriate regulatory actions to address these violations and safeguard the interests of all candidates.

Candidates are therefore urged to remain alert and ensure that all admission-related transactions are carried out exclusively through the official JAMB CAPS portal. The Board remains steadfast in its commitment to a fair, transparent, and merit-driven admission process for the 2025 cycle and beyond.
