JAMB Requires All Candidates to Declare Admission Status

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has introduced a new policy mandating all candidates registering for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to declare their current admission status. Candidates must indicate whether they are already enrolled in any tertiary institution at the time of registration.

This directive follows findings from JAMB’s 2025 UTME Infraction Report, which revealed that over 90% of examination offenders were already students in higher institutions attempting to exploit the system. In response, the Board stated that the new measure is aimed at curbing impersonation and other forms of examination malpractice.

JAMB emphasized that the UTME is intended solely for individuals seeking fresh admission into tertiary institutions. It warned that any candidate who withholds or falsifies their admission status will face strict consequences, including revocation of prior admission, cancellation of UTME registration, and potential legal action under existing laws.
