Nigeria Marks 65 Years of Independence with October 1st Holiday

The Federal Government has announced Wednesday, October 1st, 2025, as a public holiday in honor of Nigeria’s 65th year of independence.

The Federal Government has officially declared Wednesday, October 1st, 2025, a public holiday in celebration of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary. The announcement was made by Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement released by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.

In his message, Dr. Tunji-Ojo extended heartfelt congratulations to Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora, emphasizing the enduring spirit of patriotism, unity, and resilience that has defined the nation since gaining independence in 1960. He called on citizens to reflect on the sacrifices of past generations and to recommit themselves to the ideals that have held the country together through decades of challenges and triumphs.

The Minister also urged continued support for President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda—a national vision aimed at fostering economic revitalization, inclusive growth, and a renewed sense of purpose among Nigerians.
