We Will Not Resume Until FG Renegotiation is Favourably Concluded – ASUU UNIZIK
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) chapter, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka has agreed to the federal government’s proposal to reconstitute the negotiating team but maintained, that the strike will not be suspended until the renegotiation is favourably concluded and signed to be captured in the 2021 budget.
The union resolved to this after its emergency meeting at the University Multiple Purpose Hall, on Friday and signed by the Chapter Chairperson, Comrade Stephen Ufoaroh and Acting Secretary, Peter Okoye.
ASUU UNIZIK while rejecting the IPPIS payment platform, further urged the federal government to quickly address their demands including testing and deployment of the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) for the payment of members’ outstanding salaries and allowances.
According to Ufoaroh, the union congress strongly resolved that the renegotiation of 2009 agreement should be the top priority in the current FGN-ASUU negotiations.
“This congress resolution is predicated on the fact that no public university campus as at today can meet up with the minimum requirements for COVID-19 precautionary measures, coupled with the depreciated value of the naira.
“The government should pay the outstanding 40 billion naira as contained in the 2019 memorandum of action and not the 30 billion naira offered. This will be paid at once and not in tranches before the strike is suspended.”
